Umit Benan Sahin - Autumn/Winter 2012-13" - This season it was about Peru, but next season it will be something else," he explained backstage noting that it was a holiday with a friend ten years ago that inspired the collection. "I saw all these stylish women and wanted to bring what I saw into the luxury world. I presented exactly what I wanted," he said, and was happy to admit he didn't mind if no one else did.
It makes sense, then, that the designer sent out a confident message and kept his collection tight and centred around masculine looks in a mature colour palette that started in grey and oat-y tones and wandered , in bright tan red and sage-y green.
Out came oversized blazers, beneath which were belted jumpers and blanket skirts and serious boots with a hint of a walking sock. Backpacks - for every intrepid traveller requires one - accompanied most looks, as did slicked-back, plaited hair to emphasise that sense of masculinity. A similar effect was achieved with the use of cord and pinstripe on those oversized blazers.
Benan had said that last season it was important to present the personality of his woman and make his mark. There's a confidence in him and there's a confidence in his woman - we wonder which mountain she'll be trekking up next.
